STRUCTURAL TIMBER CONNECTORS / ELEVATED POST BASES

Simpson Strong-Tie PPA100 Elevated Post Base (100mm Stand-Off)

The Simpson Strong-Tie PPA100 is an engineered, industrial-grade elevated post base designed for structural timber installations requiring a fixed, clean stand-off ground clearance. Manufactured from heavy-duty structural steel, it provides a stable 100mm elevated distance that effectively isolates the base of timber columns from standing water and concrete sub-slab capillary draw. Highly specified for outdoor framework such as awning posts, pergolas, verandas, porch-ways, and car-ports, this support eliminates the need for complex timber machining or pre-slotting, allowing direct and rapid structural connection to solid wood, composite lumber, or glue-laminated (Glulam) columns.

CRITICAL STRUCTURAL SPECIFICATION: LATERAL RESTRAINT MANDATE

Like all standard stand-off structural supports, the PPA100 operates strictly as a pinned structural connection. It is engineered exclusively to resist vertical axial loads, downward compression, and horizontal shear forces—it is not designed to withstand bending moments or rotational momentum. To maintain structural integrity, the top of the timber post must be rigidly secured via an approved lateral restraint configuration (such as floor diaphragms, cross-bracing, or braced beam structures).

Click here to read our industrial engineering guide on why lateral restraint is required.

Fastener Requirements (Timber) Requires 4 No. structural coach screws (e.g., SSH10x60mm to SSH10x75mm into timber end grain; 4 No. Ø12mm flange holes provided)
Fastener Requirements (Concrete) Requires 4 No. M10 structural concrete anchors (e.g., SET-XP or AT-HP dependent on spacing; 4 No. Ø12mm base anchor holes provided)

KEY STRUCTURAL PERFORMANCE ADVANTAGES

  • High-Capacity Axial Load Resistance: Engineered heavy-gauge steel column configuration delivers an outstanding characteristic compression capacity of 93.2 kN.
  • No Timber Machining Needed: Top plate mounts flush against the square post face using end-grain structural screws, completely eliminating router cutting or boring on-site.
  • Industrial Hot-Dip Galvanised Shield: Thicker 50 µm zinc layer provides maximum anti-corrosion tracking guards under punishing outdoor Service Class 3 environmental conditions.
  • Certified Structural Integrity: Built to rigid EN guidelines with full CE approval and ETA documentation (ETA 503) for audited structural performance verification.
